Yule Ritual

(Kirsten) Let it be known that the circle is about to be cast, let none be here but of their own free will.

After circle cast say: The circle is sealed, and all herein are totally and completely apart From the outside world, That we may glorify the Lady and lord whom we adore. Blessed Be!

(Kirsten) We gather this night to celebrate the Night of the solstice, the night that the darkness is triumphant over light, and yet on the morrow, the dark begins to give way and the light will return. The spirit of nature is suspended. All living things wait the transformation of the Dark King into the Infant light. We watch for the coming of Dawn, when the Holy Mother will again give birth to the Divine Child, the Sun God, who is the bringer of the life of Spring and the promise of Summer. We call the Sun from the womb of night. Blessed be!

East: Lords of the great towers of the East, we do summon, awaken and call you up to guard the circle and protect us in our rite. We ask you to come forth from the fertile bosom of our Blessed Mother Earth, and nourish us so that our faith may grow in strength. So mote it be!

South: Lords of the firey towers of the South, we do summon, awaken and call you up to guard the circle and protect us in our rite. We ask you to come forth from the fires that warm the planets heart, from the fires that protect us on this winters night. Kindle within us the warmth of spiritual awakening. So mote it be!

West: Lords of the towers of the West, we do summon, awaken and call you up to guard the circle and protect us in our rites. We ask you to come forth from the frozen streams, from the driven snow, from the vast expanse of your watery realm. Bring to us the water of life to wash awav our fears and resentments that we may find peace of mind. So mote it be!

North: Lords of the great icy towers of the North, we do summon, awaken and call you up to guard the circle and protect us in our rite. We ask you to come to us now on the cold winter wind and breathe into us the spirit of the pure joy of life. So mote it be!

(Samantha) God Invocation : Horned God, Winter God, Father of the sun, with frost upon your beard and the blazing of Yule fires in your eyes, you bless us with your presence. We invoke and greet you!
All: So mote it be.

(Desiree) Goddess Invocation: Sister, Mother, Grandmother, I greet you and ask your blessings upon your people gathered here. We invoke and adore thee!
All: So mote it be.

(Kirsten) As above, so below. As the universe, so the soul, As without, so within. Blessed and gracious Lady and Lord, On this day we do consecrate to you Our bodies, Our minds, And our spirits. Blessed Be!

(Kirsten)To die and be reborn, the wheel is turning. What must be lost to the night?
(Desiree) Fear is lost to the night, the light was born, and the light has died.
(Samantha) Everything passes, all fades away.

Everyone stands facing the east. Together we chant…
“Return, return, by Earth, by Air, by Fire and by Water.” (walking around circle, all chant 5 times, start off soft getting louder)

(Kirsten) The Sun is rising and a spark of light is reborn to the land…
(Light the Gold candle)
Even as the spark of life is lit, so this candle is our hopes for the promise of the new season. Blessed Be.
(The candle is now passed in the Circle make a wish a for the new season, last person to have candle sets it on the altar)
The Holly King puts on his crown of leaves as the oak Lord interrupts him…

Oak Lord (Samantha)
“Holly King! You are old, your time has passed, your rule over the land is ended. Brother, give up your crown and your throne!”

Holly King (Desiree)
“Never! Younger brother, you are young and green and untried. Take my crown if you can, but I will never give it up for you.”

Oak Lord:
“Brother, I would prefer that we do not fight, that we shed not our blood. Give up your crown, for now the new Sun has risen and it is rightfully mine.”

Holly King:
“Brother, it saddens me that you should wish to take from me that which I hold. Never will I give it up for you. Care of the land can only belong to he who wins it by right of might and strength.”

Oak Lord:
“That which you hold is no longer rightfully yours. Brother Holly, I challenge you to battle, and our spilt blood will be taken up by the land, which is in our care.”

The Holly King removes his crown and hands it to the Priestess, who will hold it and the Oak crown for the duration of the battle, with the Holly King saying:
“Then take my crown if you dare, if you can! Let us see to whom the land belongs!”

THE BATTLE!!!

Once the Oak King (Samantha) has won, the Priestess calls “him” over. He kneels at her feet and she says:
“Once again Holly and Oak have fought, and as is rightful at Yule, Lord Oak has won. Lord Oak I crown you, King of the lightening days.”

The crown is placed upon the Oak Kings head…
“Hail and Welcome to the Oak King!”

Lord Holly (Desiree) steps forward and says: “Victor of this day you may be, but my time will come again, and you will kneel at my feet once again.”

The Oak King (Samantha) “But for now, kneel before me Lord Holly, for this is MY time.”
Lord Holly kneels and says: “Hail, the Oak King!”

(Kirsten) Now is the time of the Oak King, but even as the year grows so it will once again become time for Lord Holly to step forward. For as we need light we also need darkness. As we need day, we need night. As we need Summer, we need Winter. for both are as the two sides of a coin, and without the one, the other cannot be. As so the Wheel turns. Blessed Be.”
